"Montag had done nothing- his hands done it all"
Montag feels that his hand has a mind of its own and he should be exempt from the situation, it also shows how two sides of Montag are clashing with each other for control of the body. one being the mindless drone that follows the orders without question and the other being the curious side eager to find out what he's missing. This is a motif used by Bradbury throughout the novel to show Montag's inner struggle.
"his hands had been infected and soon it would be his arms. He could feel the poison working up his wrists and into his elbows and his shoulders, and then the jump-over from shoulder-blade to shoulder-blade like a spark leaping a gap."
The author uses the metaphor to symbolise the change in Montag. "He could feel the poison" just as poison corrupts the victim. We can now see that Montag is ready to look at Society in a different light.
Up until this point, Montag described the change in him through his hands but now his eyes are eager to make a change and witness the world and society from a different perspective.
